VST Instruments are programs that emulate real world instruments. Every type of instrument you can think of has been emulated, from theremins & modular synthesizers to symphony orchestra instruments and even chanting monks. That's right, chanting monks. Check out the Delay Lama. You won't be disappointed. VST Instruments can be used in DAWs and controlled by midi sequences, or, some may be run as standalone instruments on a laptop, effectively turning your laptop or desktop computer into a soundbank.
